Design
The design of this pavilion is very unique and innovative. There are stainless steel panels used for the construction of this pavilion and they are widespread across the whole ground. The trellis is in the shape of a flattened dome where the steel pipes are placed 65 feet apart. Cylindrical concrete pylons support the trellis.

The overhead trellis is the attraction point of this pavilion and it is an innovative and creative idea found out by the architects. There are high rise buildings surrounding the Millennium park and this pavilion is the focal point of the park. It is visible from a distance as well as it is too big.

There is a stage where the musicians and artists can perform and a sitting space where the audience can sit and enjoy watching the performances. The rest of the audience that can’t sit in the chairs can take the space on the big ground. There is a space for 4000 people in the fixed seats and 7000 people can take the seat on the lawn.

The lawn seats were free for all concerts initially but it changed when Tori Amos gave her rock performance over here.

The lighting system is very beautiful and looks mesmerizing during night shows and events. Elegant lighting reaches a far distance and that’s what makes this pavilion look great and attractive. The sound system is also great, enhanced by the speaker clusters. Also, an enhancement sound system is suspended from the metal trellis bars across the lawn area.

This makes the pavilion super great as you will see very few places having this concept of a trellis having the distributed sound system. Gehry partners wanted to get this concept in this pavilion as they wanted to give a great sound quality not just to the audience right in front of the stage but also to those who are away from the stage standing on the lawn.
There are large glass windows in the pavilion which allow hosting a public function like lecture, banquet, wedding, and reception.

There is three-level underground parking, isn’t that surprising! Who would have thought that there will be a three-level basement for parking beneath the pavilion? Also, the more incredible fact is that there are bus and metro tracks at the lowest level of the parking structure, this metro and bus tracks run adjacent to the Millennium Park.

There is a Pedestrian Bridge adjacent to the Pavilion, it is also designed by the same architect, Gehry Partners. The bridge connects the pavilion to the other side of Grant Park. Another very special attraction over here is the Cloud gate structure, it is built by Anish Kapoor and is the centerpiece of AT&T Plaza. Almost all tourists who come to visit this park get a photo clicked before this structure.

This pavilion has received a lot of appreciation from the famous architects and experts in the field of construction design. Its unique architecture has made it popular worldwide. In 2005, the pavilion was described as one of the most accessible pavilions in the world.
