Mirai House of Arches/ Sanjay Puri Architects is a tiny home nestled in an area of 622 sq.m in the hot region of Rajasthan– Bhilwara. The corner plot follows a design that responds well to the extremely hot climate with desert conditions. Sanjay Puri Architects went with strategic planning for the project to make it extremely comfortable for the family to reside.
The home, designed for a 3-generational family unfurls a unique story with its play of levels and volumes. The home sprawls across 3 floors and nestles 2 living rooms, a study, and one gym area. The varying heights in the structure lead to an enticing volume where bedrooms compose one volume while the dining space gets double volume. The living room lies as an intermediate volume.

The project has been oriented in a direction such that the eastern and southern portions of the structure gets minimum openings and the northern and western part of the house are composed of gardens and open spaces. The plan retains the existing trees on-site and leaves the scope of expansion to add adjacent villas on the closed end.
Mirai House of Arches/ Sanjay Puri Architects sits right outside the enormous Thar Desert and to fight the climatic conditions, various passive strategies have been adopted to transform the home into a soothing and cooling oasis. Elements like greenery and shaded terraces further aid in making this home a comfortable place for the family to live.

Mirai House caters to the varying set of requirements put forward by each age group. The multi-generational approach in design caters to a unique composition of spaces where each room varies in terms of its privacy levels. Even the living room is given its nook for the family to gather around or stay within their cozy cocoons.
The design of Mirai House of Arches/ Sanjay Puri Architects is nothing less than a living sculpture. The facade is curated with a curvilinear punctuated design that envelops the entire home and leads to the formation of interesting semi-open zones. These spaces run along the perimeter and serve as a deep recess in the directions that open to the lovely views of lush green gardens.
The comprehensive approach to facade design not only serves the aesthetics but has also proved to be extremely utilitarian by minimizing the heat gain inside the home. It also functions as an enclosure for the open spaces of the house where there’s a sense of openness retained while there’s a promised safety.
This fanciful approach blankets the entire home within a porous facade while the arched apertures offer shaded and semi-open terraces that let in the natural air and keeps the interior spaces well-ventilated.

The interior design of the home is incredibly inviting with their warm palette. The invigorating spaces have been curated with earthy colors mingling with the retro arches. One can witness a playful mood board composed of textures and patterns. There’s a play of light and shadow with the pergolas covering the semi-open zones of the house that serve as patches of eclecticism.
The living room in Mirai House of Arches exudes a sense of luxury with its clean aesthetics and color palette that hints at elegance within the simplicity. Wooden accents matched with beige tones activate the space and make it the perfect spot for all the generations to mingle with each other.

Subtleness is the wall texture that serves as the perfect backdrop for bold wall embellishments for the dining area. The entire room is jazzed up by a statement-making chandelier that talks in a local craftsy language with its woven design. The design ornamentation in the interiors conveys the glorious tales from the past with their retro accents.
The home celebrates the local context as fine craftsmanship is carried out by the local artisans and laborers. Adding to the cultural context are the locally sources materials like lime plaster, bricks, and sandstone that also puts the project on the lines of sustainability. The addition of solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling systems illustrate the green building concepts incorporated in the design of Mirai House of Arches/ Sanjay Puri Architects.

“Designed to mitigate heat gain in response to the hot climate of its location, this envelope keeps the entire house cool in the hot summer months, when temperatures rise more than 40°C for 8 months of the year”, mentioned the design team at Sanjay Puri Architects.
“This sculptural house is contextual to its surroundings, the climate, and the owner’s needs, resulting in an interesting play of volumes, open, enclosed, and semi-enclosed spaces at every level. The design creates energy-efficient spaces with reduced heat gain and indirect natural light in each part of the house. mentioned Sanjay Puri.
He continues, “In collaboration with local craftsmen and contract labor from the immediate vicinity, the house was built using locally sourced bricks, sandstone, and lime plaster, and includes processes for water recycling, rainwater harvesting, and solar panels for energy generation. The house is built sustainably and is climate-responsive”

Although the design is sublime, it makes a loud statement with its artistic form and eye-catchy design elements. This design is a modern interpretation of the historic Rajasthani arches that lead to extroverted zones in the house while also maintaining the desired levels of privacy and safety. This architectural wonder is the aptest example of functionality even the tiny plots can be maximized while keeping with the beauty and not compromising on the response to the site and its conditions.
